Rosmerta Goddess of Abundance
"Rosmerta, Rosmerta, how good you are! Rosmerta, Rosmerta, how good you are!"
Amazed, inspired, and grateful, I sing these lines to the goddess Rosmerta (Latinized), in Celtic Ancient language "Rośmeŕda," at the beginning of the new Celtic Wheel of the Year. Rośmeŕda means "the greased wheel," and "Śmeŕ" means "grease." Grease is what warms, what sustains life, what protects us in winter when cold and darkness sweep across the land. Grease lubricates joints, tools, and wheels. "Śmeŕ" is the expression for prosperity, and "Ro" means "increase" in Celtic language.
"Full of love and dance, full of kindness and splendor. Full of wealth and money, full of the world's bounty. Full of health and strength, full of wisdom and power."
Rosmerta is a queen, a Rigana (Latinized), a Riśe (Celtic).
"Rigana, Rigana, Rigana, Rigana!"
She is the golden goddess of life and abundance. In her yellow robe, she shines like the sun. Her oil-gold breastplate reflects the power to protect life. Ducks and snakes are her companions and messengers of renewal and balance between the worlds.
