Arteha Goddess of Protection
With my hymn to the goddess Arteha, I open a space filled with celestial sounds between heaven and earth.
"Arteha, I hear your song, so beautiful, no one else can sing like you!"
She appears in her full moon at the winter solstice as a wren queen, small and unassuming in form, yet powerful in sound, tone, and vibration! She is a shapeshifter and sits on the fence, on the border between different worlds.
"In your full moon, you transform into the wren queen, so close."
Arteha rides across the land in a white gown with flowing golden hair, in indescribable beauty, on a white horse with golden hooves, bringing protection, joy, music, and dance!
"Arteha, on the white horse you ride across the land," your golden hair flutters so bright, oh, what bliss, shining like a sun!"
Arteha is the goddess of the sky. Her realm is not the distant, abstract sky, but the protective roof over the world, a fabric of stars, clouds, wind, and time. She is a goddess of home and community, "Teka" in Geltic language.
"Arteha, you protect me, the house is warm, the roof is closed."
In summer, she appears in an unusual form: as a white bat, hanging upside down from the roof of the sky. Inverted, with her head pointing downwards, she views the world from a perspective alien to humankind. Where we see the ground, she sees the sky. Where we feel heaviness, she perceives lightness. Where we see ends, she sees transitions.
This inversion is her gift. Arteha teaches that truth does not arise from only one perspective. That what we consider to be above can also be below, and that in the stillness of winter, this other view becomes especially clear.
Arteha is the name on a Geltian inscription in Latin script in the Pyrenees, in Old Geltic language “Aŕte-Teka”, simplified Teka.
